New Feral Cat Resource from the Humane Society of the United States Features Forgotten Felines of Forsyth

By Diana Perkinson

Forgotten Felines of Forsyth is included in a CD/DVD set called "Effectively Managing Feral Cats" published by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). This is an educational tool developed to provide information to people interested in practicing trap-neuter-return (TNR) or implementing communitywide TNR programs.

Last year, Forgotten Felines of Forsyth made a presentation to Forsyth County’s Animal Control Advisory Board. In this presentation, we made the case for TNR (trap-neuter-return) in Forsyth County. Now that successful presentation is available from the HSUS as an example of how to make an effective presentation on feral cat management.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is the nation’s largest animal protection organization. Confronting animal cruelty through education is one of their main objectives. The HSUS endorses TNR as the most effective, non-lethal means of feral cat management. Nancy Peterson, HSUS Feral Cat Program Manager, was in the process of determining the content of their CD/DVD set when she saw a copy of our presentation and asked to use it.

In addition to FFF’s PowerPoint presentation, "Effectively Managing Feral Cats" includes a short video about TNR from the HSUS; a video-demonstration of mass trapping techniques and a handbook for feral cat caretakers by Neighborhood Cats, one of the nation’s foremost TNR groups located in NYC; and a guide for implementing community TNR programs. It is available online at

<www.animalsheltering.org/publications/> for $9.99 or by contacting the HSUS Feral Cat Program at 202-452-1100.
